Fort Wayne, IN – A Fort Wayne Community Schools multipurpose bus led officers on a brief pursuit late Wednesday morning after allegedly refusing to stop for police on the city’s north side.

According to the Fort Wayne Police Department, the incident began around 10:55 a.m. near North Coliseum Boulevard and Pontiac Street. Officers reported that the bus was tailgating their squad vehicle. They initially pulled aside to let the bus pass, then got behind it to investigate. When officers activated their emergency lights to initiate a traffic stop, the bus driver allegedly failed to stop, prompting a pursuit.

Police said the chase ended at the rear of a business near the same intersection. The driver remained inside the bus and refused to exit despite officers issuing several loud verbal commands.

Emergency Services and the Crisis Response Team arrived to assist. The FWPD Air Support Unit confirmed there were no children on the bus at any point in the incident.

Shortly afterward, officers took the driver into custody without further confrontation. Police transported the driver to a nearby hospital for a medical evaluation. Investigators said it is not yet clear whether a medical issue may have contributed to the driver’s behavior.

The Fort Wayne Police Department stated that the incident remains under investigation.
