According to Lt. Nick Kahnke of the Fond du Lac County Sheriff’s Office, the county Communications Center received a report of a structure fire at N7849 Lakeshore Drive in the Town of Friendship at approximately 10:13 a.m. Feb. 11.
The fire was reported by a nearby resident. Multiple agencies responded, including fire departments from North Fond du Lac, Van Dyne, Eldorado, Lamartine, the Town of Fond du Lac, Nekimi, and the City of Fond du Lac. Fond du Lac EMS, Van Dyne first responders, deputies from the Sheriff’s Office, officers from the North Fond du Lac Police Department, and the Wisconsin State Patrol also assisted.
Upon arrival, deputies observed smoke coming from the attic of the one-story residence. Firefighters entered the home and located an 81-year-old woman deceased inside a bedroom.
Authorities said the fire appeared to have originated in the basement and was quickly brought under control. The cause of the fire and the manner of death remain under investigation.
