Miami, Florida – High heat and midweek thunderstorms could snarl travel and soak commutes across South Florida starting Wednesday — with heat index values soaring past 100°F.

According to the National Weather Service in Miami, a weak disturbance arriving late Wednesday will trigger scattered afternoon storms, followed by daily chances for showers and thunderstorms through Memorial Day. The most active storm windows begin around 2 p.m. each day and could impact key routes including US-1 and I-95. While Tuesday will remain mostly sunny with highs near 89°F, conditions shift sharply by Wednesday.

A 20 percent chance of thunderstorms returns by 2 p.m. Wednesday, paired with a high of 91°F. The heat index could make it feel even hotter, so residents should limit outdoor activities, stay hydrated, and monitor for lightning. Winds will remain light but shift southward, increasing moisture in the atmosphere.

By Thursday and Friday, thunderstorm chances climb to 40 percent, especially during the late afternoon. Winds from the southwest may help storms form over inland neighborhoods before drifting east toward the coast. Flooding is not expected at this time, but brief downpours and gusty winds could accompany stronger cells.

Looking Ahead:

  • Saturday: 30% chance of storms after 2 p.m., high near 87°F
  • Sunday: Afternoon showers again likely, highs in the mid-80s
  • Memorial Day (Monday): Partly sunny with a 20% chance of storms, high near 86°F

Storm risks increase as the weekend progresses. Stay weather-aware, especially during outdoor holiday plans. More advisories may follow if storm activity strengthens.
