Tampa, Florida – Scorching heat and a rising chance for thunderstorms will dominate Florida’s Gulf Coast starting Friday and continuing into Memorial Day.
According to the National Weather Service in Tampa, Friday’s high will reach 93°F under mostly sunny skies, but a 20 percent chance of afternoon storms could catch drivers off guard, especially along I-275 and other urban corridors. Light winds will offer little relief as humidity creeps up, pushing the heat index even higher.
Saturday and Sunday bring more of the same: sunny mornings with isolated thunderstorms developing after 2 p.m. each day. Highs will hover around 95°F. Winds remain calm, increasing the risk of stagnant, muggy air — a hallmark of Florida’s early summer pattern. Officials recommend staying hydrated and limiting strenuous outdoor activity during peak heat hours.
Memorial Day itself (Monday) holds a 30 percent chance of storms, mainly in the afternoon. Skies will be partly sunny, and the high will again approach 95°F. Boaters, beachgoers, and outdoor event organizers should plan for shifting skies and sudden downpours.
Looking ahead, storm chances continue daily through Wednesday, with temperatures consistently in the mid-90s. Tuesday and Wednesday will see 30 to 50 percent storm chances, along with muggy overnight lows in the mid-70s.
Stay alert through the weekend — weather could shift quickly, especially in the afternoons. The next update from the National Weather Service is expected Friday morning.
