Tallahassee residents should prepare for another round of afternoon thunderstorms today as tropical humidity fuels repeated downpours and lightning across North Florida. Storms could quickly intensify after 1 p.m., bringing slick roads and brief visibility drops during one of the busiest Memorial Day travel weekends of the year.
According to the National Weather Service in Tallahassee, rain and thunderstorm chances will remain elevated through at least Thursday, with daily highs holding near 87 to 88 degrees and gusty winds reaching 20 mph in stronger storms. The greatest storm coverage is expected during the afternoon and early evening hours, especially along Interstate 10, Apalachee Parkway and heavily traveled corridors near downtown Tallahassee.
Localized street flooding may develop where heavier rain repeatedly moves across the same areas. Frequent lightning could also interrupt outdoor cookouts, sporting events and holiday gatherings across Leon County and surrounding communities including Quincy, Crawfordville and Monticello.
The unsettled pattern stretches across much of the Gulf Coast as deep moisture continues streaming inland from the Gulf of Mexico. While widespread severe weather is not currently expected, isolated stronger cells may still produce wind gusts capable of knocking down tree limbs or causing scattered power interruptions.
Conditions remain humid and stormy through the workweek, with additional advisories possible if heavier rainfall trends develop later this week.
