Tampa, Florida – Scattered thunderstorms and sweltering inland heat will define Tuesday’s weather across west-central Florida, with conditions expected to intensify through the afternoon.

According to the National Weather Service in Tampa Bay, numerous showers and thunderstorms will develop inland today, primarily after midday. Light west-southwest winds of 5 to 10 mph will accompany temperatures climbing to the mid-90s away from the coast, while coastal areas will stay slightly cooler, in the upper 80s.

Inland cities like Brooksville, Lakeland, and Sebring could see brief downpours, gusty winds, and isolated lightning as storms build. Coastal zones, including Clearwater and St. Petersburg, will see lower storm chances but should prepare for humid, hot conditions. Drivers should remain alert for sudden road slickness and reduced visibility, especially on highways like I-75 and U.S. 98 inland.

Residents are advised to limit outdoor activity during peak heat, stay hydrated, and monitor alerts for developing storms. If thunder roars, head indoors immediately.

This round of unsettled weather is expected to last through Tuesday evening, with additional rain chances possible midweek. Updates will be issued if storm activity intensifies.
