Miami, Florida – Drivers across southwestern Florida may face sudden drops in visibility early this morning as patchy dense fog develops, especially in inland areas. Motorists in Hendry, Glades, and the far interior of Collier County are being urged to slow down and use extra caution through 9 a.m. Monday.
According to the National Weather Service Miami, the risk of fog is highest between 6 and 8 a.m., when visibility could drop to a quarter mile or less in isolated spots. The agency warns that even brief stretches of thick fog can lead to hazardous driving conditions, especially along rural roadways.
Roads near Lake Okeechobee, State Road 80, and other inland highways are most likely to be impacted. Officials recommend keeping headlights on low beam, allowing extra braking distance, and avoiding unnecessary travel until fog lifts. Residents should also plan for possible delays during the morning commute.
While the fog risk is rated as minor, conditions can change rapidly—making it critical for drivers to remain alert. Additional advisories may be issued if visibility worsens. Visibility should improve by mid-morning as sunshine returns.
