Garden City, Kansas – Thick fog will blanket parts of southwest Kansas overnight, making travel hazardous along roads north and east of a Garden City to Meade line.

According to the National Weather Service in Dodge City, local visibilities may drop to as low as 1/2 to 3/4 mile between 1 a.m. and 8 a.m. Sunday, with the lowest visibility expected in rural areas and highways near Garden City and Meade. The advisory comes as humid air and cooling temperatures create ideal conditions for dense fog, especially in low-lying spots.

Drivers on U.S. Highway 83, K-23, and county routes in Finney and Meade counties are urged to slow down, use low-beam headlights, and avoid non-essential trips until conditions improve. School bus routes and early-morning travelers could see delays if the fog lingers into sunrise.

Those heading out should give themselves extra time, check for local advisories, and stay alert for changing road conditions. Fog-related delays and dangerous driving conditions have occurred in previous years during late April, so caution is critical.

Visibility is expected to improve by mid-morning Sunday, but further advisories may be issued if the fog persists.
