Orlando, Fla. – Bright sunshine is already heating up Central Florida, but the quiet start won’t last. Building heat and increasing humidity will fuel another round of afternoon thunderstorms, creating a familiar pattern of sudden downpours, dangerous lightning and slower travel across the region before evening.

According to the National Weather Service in Melbourne, temperatures climb to 94 degrees today, followed by 95 degrees Tuesday and 96 degrees Wednesday and Thursday. Rain chances remain relatively low early in the day before scattered showers and thunderstorms develop during the afternoon, with today’s chance reaching 40% and around 20% through midweek.

Drivers along Interstate 4, Florida’s Turnpike, State Road 408 and State Road 417 should expect changing road conditions after midday. Heavy rain can quickly reduce visibility, while ponding water may develop on busy roadways during stronger storms. If thunder roars, move indoors immediately. Frequent cloud-to-ground lightning remains one of Florida’s greatest weather hazards, even when rainfall is brief.

The broader national weather pattern continues to support widespread thunderstorms across parts of the Southeast, although Central Florida is expected to experience more typical summertime activity rather than organized severe weather. An isolated strong storm cannot be ruled out, producing gusty winds and torrential rainfall, but widespread severe weather is not anticipated. Tornado potential remains very low, though meteorologists continue monitoring daily storm development.

Outdoor plans are best scheduled early. Keep water nearby, wear light clothing and take frequent breaks if working outside. Theme park visitors, youth sports teams and construction crews should be ready to seek shelter quickly as storms develop during the afternoon.
