Tallahassee, FL – Florida residents are advised to brace for a challenging weather scenario this weekend as severe storms and extreme heat are forecasted for Sunday. The National Weather Service (NWS) in Tallahassee has issued a Slight Risk (level 2 of 5) for severe weather conditions, particularly for southeastern Alabama, southwestern Georgia, and the surrounding Florida regions. These areas are expected to experience damaging winds as the primary threat, with large hail also a possibility.

According to the NWS, the storms are anticipated to develop late Sunday afternoon, continuing through the evening and possibly into the night. The window of highest risk is projected between 3 p.m. and 12 a.m. ET. Residents in the affected areas should be prepared for strong winds capable of causing damage and possibly dangerous lightning.

In addition to the storm threat, Florida is also facing an intense heatwave, with temperatures expected to climb into the mid to upper 90s. Heat indices, which take into account both temperature and humidity, could soar to between 108°F and 112°F. Such extreme heat can pose serious health risks, especially for vulnerable populations such as the elderly and those with pre-existing health conditions.
