Miami, Florida – A high rip current risk is in effect through Friday evening across South Florida’s coastline, posing a serious danger to swimmers.

According to the National Weather Service in Miami, dangerous rip currents are expected along beaches in Palm Beach, Broward, and Miami-Dade counties through at least 8 p.m. Friday, April 25. Lifeguards are urging beachgoers to stay close to monitored areas and avoid swimming alone. Rip currents can pull even strong swimmers away from shore in seconds.

Starting Wednesday, breezy easterly winds will strengthen—up to 17 mph during the day and 22 mph in gusts by Thursday—heightening surf risks along A1A, especially near popular spots like Miami Beach, Fort Lauderdale, and Delray Beach. Sunny skies and warm spring temperatures may attract crowds, but safety officials warn that clear skies don’t mean calm waters.

If caught in a rip current: don’t swim against it. Float, remain calm, and swim parallel to shore. Call for help if you can’t escape.

Looking ahead, here’s your extended 5-day spring weather forecast for Miami:

  • Wednesday: Mostly sunny, high near 80°F. East wind around 13 mph.
  • Thursday: Sunny, breezy. High 80°F. Gusts up to 23 mph.
  • Friday: Continued breezy with sunshine. High 80°F.
  • Saturday: Slight chance of afternoon showers or storms. High 81°F.
