Panama City, Florida – Drivers along Interstate 10 and U.S. 231 will encounter strong crosswinds beginning at 8 a.m. EST Sunday as gusts climb toward 40 mph across the Florida Panhandle and Big Bend through early evening.
According to the National Weather Service in Tallahassee, a Wind Advisory remains in effect from 8 a.m. EST, 7 a.m. CST, until 6 p.m. EST, 5 p.m. CST Sunday for southeast Alabama, eastern Panhandle Florida and much of south-central and southwest Georgia. Sustained northwest winds between 15 and 25 mph will combine with gusts up to 40 mph.
Communities including Panama City, Lynn Haven and Port St. Joe may see unsecured outdoor items blown into roadways. In Albany, Tifton and Moultrie, strong afternoon gusts could snap weakened tree limbs, leading to isolated power outages. Dothan and Enterprise in southeast Alabama will also experience difficult travel conditions, particularly for trucks and RVs on open highways.
Residents should secure patio furniture, trash bins and temporary structures before midmorning. Charge devices in case scattered outages occur and avoid parking under large trees.
Winds will gradually ease after sunset, but breezy conditions may linger into the night. Additional advisories could be issued if gusts exceed projections during peak heating hours.
