Virginia Beach, Virginia – Drivers crossing the Chesapeake Bay Bridge-Tunnel and Hampton Roads Bridge-Tunnel could face 45 mph wind gusts beginning at 7 p.m. Sunday, creating hazardous travel through 10 a.m. Monday.
According to the National Weather Service in Wakefield, a Wind Advisory is in effect for Virginia Beach, Norfolk, Portsmouth and Hampton/Poquoson, along with Eastern Currituck County in North Carolina. Northwest winds will strengthen to 20 to 30 mph this evening, with gusts reaching up to 45 mph overnight and into the Monday morning commute.
In Norfolk and Portsmouth, unsecured outdoor items may be blown into streets, while tree limbs could snap under repeated gusts. Coastal neighborhoods in Virginia Beach and along the Outer Banks may see the strongest winds due to open water exposure. Isolated power outages are possible, especially where trees remain weakened.
High-profile vehicles should use caution on Interstate 64, Interstate 264 and area bridges and tunnels. Residents are urged to secure patio furniture, trash bins and decorations before sunset and charge electronic devices in case of outages.
Winds are expected to gradually ease after 10 a.m. Monday, though breezy conditions may linger into the afternoon. Additional statements could be issued if gusts trend higher along the immediate coast.
