Florida Weather Alert: 40 MPH Wind Gusts and 17° Wind Chills Threaten Big Bend Through Monday Morning

Tallahassee, Florida – Drivers across the Florida Big Bend and Panhandle need to secure loose items and prepare for a sharp temperature drop before daybreak Monday, when wind chills will plunge as low as 17 degrees and northwest gusts continue to snap tree limbs through early evening.

According to the National Weather Service in Tallahassee, a Wind Advisory remains in effect until 6 p.m. EST Sunday for much of southeast Alabama, southwest Georgia and the Florida Panhandle, with sustained northwest winds of 15 to 20 mph and gusts up to 40 mph. A Cold Weather Advisory follows from 5 a.m. to 9 a.m. EST Monday, when wind chills are expected to bottom out between 17 and 23 degrees across the region.

In Florida, Leon County, including Tallahassee, could see wind chills near 20 degrees by sunrise Monday. Inland areas of Wakulla, Jefferson, Madison, Taylor, Lafayette, Dixie and Southern Liberty counties will wake up to readings in the lower 20s. Along the I-10 corridor, crosswinds may make travel difficult for high-profile vehicles through sunset.

In Georgia, Brooks, Lowndes and Lanier counties, including Valdosta, face similar conditions. Across southeast Alabama, Houston, Dale, Coffee and Geneva counties could see wind chills as low as 17 degrees early Monday, impacting Dothan and surrounding communities.

Residents should bring in outdoor furniture, use caution on area bridges and overpasses, and wear hats and gloves if heading out before 9 a.m. Monday. Additional advisories could be issued if winds linger or temperatures trend lower overnight.
