Atlanta, Georgia – Bundle up before stepping outside tonight as wind chills plunge to near zero across north and central Georgia by 1 a.m. Monday, following a day of 40 mph wind gusts that could still down limbs through early evening.

According to the National Weather Service in Peachtree City, a Wind Advisory remains in effect until 7 p.m. EST Sunday statewide, with northwest winds of 15 to 20 mph and gusts up to 40 mph. A Cold Weather Advisory follows from 1 a.m. to 10 a.m. EST Monday, when wind chills will range from 10 degrees above zero to a few degrees below zero, especially across north Georgia.

In metro Atlanta, including Fulton, DeKalb, Cobb and Gwinnett counties, wind chills could fall into the single digits before sunrise Monday. Along I-75 and I-85, drivers may encounter strong crosswinds through the evening commute. In the mountains of Union, Fannin and Towns counties, wind chills could dip below zero.

Central Georgia cities including Macon, Warner Robins and Milledgeville are expected to see wind chills between 5 and 10 degrees early Monday. Farther west in Columbus and LaGrange, similar readings are likely.

Residents should secure loose outdoor items, limit time outdoors overnight and wear layered clothing, hats and gloves. Additional advisories could be issued if winds persist or temperatures trend colder before daybreak Monday.
