Orlando, Florida – Severe thunderstorms could impact Central Florida by midday Thursday, bringing heavy rain, lightning, and gusty winds that may slow travel on I-4.

According to the National Weather Service, scattered storms and thunderstorms are expected between 2 p.m. and 8 p.m. Thursday, with localized downpours and brief wind gusts reaching up to 30 mph. The greatest impacts will hit metro Orlando and surrounding areas, especially along major roadways like Interstate 4. The chance of precipitation stands at 80%.

Commuters are urged to delay non-essential afternoon travel, check real-time road conditions, and avoid flooded streets. South winds around 10 mph will shift by evening, but additional showers are likely into Thursday night.

Cities including Kissimmee, Sanford, and Winter Park may see brief street flooding and lightning delays through the evening commute. Though widespread damage isn’t expected, outdoor plans may be disrupted.
