Melbourne, Florida – Scattered thunderstorms are moving east across South-Central Florida early Saturday, bringing lightning, gusty winds, and periods of heavy rain to areas including the Treasure Coast and Okeechobee.
According to the National Weather Service in Melbourne, the highest storm coverage is expected this morning, particularly around Lake Okeechobee, Fort Pierce, and Vero Beach. Radar at 5 a.m. showed bands of rain pushing eastward, with activity likely to diminish by early afternoon.
The primary hazards include occasional lightning, strong wind gusts, and locally heavy downpours, which may cause brief flooding in low-lying or poorly drained areas. Residents are advised to seek shelter indoors if thunderstorms approach, especially during peak morning commute hours.
Motorists along I-95 and US-441 should use caution as visibility could quickly drop in heavier showers. While widespread severe weather is not expected, localized impacts may disrupt morning plans.
Rain chances are expected to ease by midday, but the Weather Service notes additional updates could follow if activity lingers or intensifies later today.
