Orlando, Florida – Gusty winds, large hail, and even an isolated tornado could threaten parts of Central Florida this afternoon as a round of severe storms targets the region during the Monday evening commute.
According to the National Weather Service in Melbourne, a Level 1 severe weather risk is in place from 3 p.m. to 10 p.m., primarily along the I-4 corridor stretching south and east of Orlando. The highest threat zone includes Orange, Osceola, and Brevard counties, where storms could bring wind gusts up to 50 mph, coin-sized hail, and locally heavy rainfall. Forecasters also warn of a low but present chance for a brief tornado.
Cities at greatest risk include Kissimmee, Sanford, and Melbourne, where outdoor plans and travel could be disrupted. Residents are urged to secure loose items, stay weather-aware, and avoid unnecessary travel during storm activity. Power outages are possible with stronger wind gusts, and flash flooding may develop in poor-drainage areas.
While the overall risk is marginal, the NWS notes that isolated severe storms could rapidly intensify. Alerts will be issued as needed through the evening.
More updates are expected later today as the system moves through. Storm warnings remain possible through 10 p.m. tonight.
