Miami, Florida – Localized flooding and heavy rainfall could disrupt South Florida Monday as repeated rounds of thunderstorms sweep through the region, beginning early in the morning.

According to the National Weather Service in Miami, most areas from Naples to Fort Lauderdale have a 50% chance of seeing 1 to 3 inches of rain, with higher totals possible in isolated areas. A less likely but more intense scenario could deliver 2 to 4 inches in as little as four hours, significantly increasing the threat of flooding in low-lying and poorly drained locations.

Cities including West Palm Beach, Homestead, and Fort Myers are at risk for street flooding, slowed commutes, and waterlogged roadways throughout the day. The heaviest rain is expected during midday and early afternoon hours. Local emergency officials urge residents to avoid driving through flooded roads and to monitor for additional warnings.

This marks one of the first widespread heavy rainfall events of June, signaling the unofficial start to South Florida’s wet season. Residents should clear storm drains, secure outdoor items, and have backup power sources ready in case of electrical disruptions.

Rain and storm activity are expected to continue into Tuesday. Additional flood advisories may be issued as the situation evolves.
