Tampa, Florida – Rain will return to west-central Florida by Wednesday evening, breaking a weeks-long dry stretch from Tampa Bay up through Gainesville and eastward toward Orlando.

According to the National Weather Service in Tampa Bay, light to moderate showers are expected to develop Wednesday afternoon and persist through early Thursday. Rainfall totals could reach up to 0.5 inches in parts of Pasco, Polk, Marion, and Volusia counties, with localized downpours possible during evening hours. The heaviest activity is likely along the I-4 corridor and extending northeast toward Daytona Beach.

Communities including Brooksville, Lakeland, Ocala, and Winter Haven can expect between 0.25 and 0.5 inches of rain, with lighter amounts under 0.1 inch closer to Sarasota, Fort Myers, and Naples. The rainfall, while modest, will be a welcome shift for areas that have seen below-average precipitation since early April.

Drivers should watch for slick roads during the evening commute and into the night, particularly along US-19 and I-75. Residents are encouraged to check gutters, secure outdoor items, and plan for brief delays.

This midweek system marks the beginning of a wetter pattern expected to continue into early next week. Additional rain chances may arrive by Sunday, with updated forecasts expected Thursday morning.
