Green Bay, Wis. – Near-critical fire weather conditions are taking hold across northern and western parts of the Fox Valley today as warm, dry air lingers ahead of a strong cold front. Fire danger will remain elevated through Thursday, with the highest risk in areas away from Lake Michigan.
According to the National Weather Service in Green Bay, relative humidity levels will drop as low as 15 to 30% on Thursday afternoon, especially inland from the bay. A cold front sweeping through late Tuesday into Wednesday will bring cooler temperatures and gusty northerly winds, increasing the chance for any ignition to spread rapidly.
Communities from Wausau to Appleton should prepare for restricted outdoor burning and be alert for any local fire bans. Highs today will range from 68 to 80°F, followed by breezy conditions and a dip to the 50s on Wednesday and Thursday.
Residents are urged to avoid outdoor fires, properly discard cigarettes, and delay any brush burning. Farmers and construction crews should secure equipment that could spark dry vegetation.
Fire conditions could ease slightly heading into the weekend, but elevated risk remains through Thursday evening. More updates are expected as humidity and wind patterns shift.
