Tallahassee, FL – As Tropical Storm Francine approaches the Gulf Coast, severe weather is expected to impact the Florida Panhandle starting late Wednesday. Coastal areas could see dangerous rip currents, high surf, and beach erosion. Minor coastal flooding is also likely.

According to the National Weather Service, the biggest threat includes the potential for tornadoes starting late Wednesday into Thursday. A warm front moving inland will combine with outer bands from the storm, increasing tornado risks in the region. Locally heavy rain is also forecast, with 2 to 4 inches possible along the coast.

Residents should prepare for slight risk of severe weather, including damaging winds. Inland regions, including Tallahassee, may experience flash flooding and tropical moisture as Francine moves east. The NWS will continue to monitor the storm’s track and provide updates throughout the week.
