Tallahassee, FL – A sharp drop in temperatures is set to bring sub-freezing wind chills to the Florida Panhandle early Friday morning. The National Weather Service (NWS) has issued a Cold Weather Advisory, warning of wind chills ranging from 20 to 25 degrees in parts of the region, including Tallahassee.

According to the NWS, the advisory takes effect late Thursday night as a cold front moves through, bringing brisk northerly winds of 10 to 20 mph. Residents are urged to take precautions to protect people, pets, plants, and exposed pipes. Wind chill values this low can pose risks of hypothermia or frostbite for those outdoors without proper attire.

The coldest period is expected to occur before sunrise Friday, with temperatures dipping into the low 30s. Friday will remain chilly, with a high near 53 degrees under sunny skies. North winds will gradually ease throughout the day.

Looking ahead, Saturday and Sunday offer a slight reprieve, with highs near 59 and 68 degrees, respectively, under mostly sunny skies. However, temperatures will remain cool overnight, with lows around 40 on Saturday and 52 on Sunday.

By Monday, warmer air and a chance of showers return, bringing highs in the low 70s. Despite the weekend’s sunshine, residents are reminded to remain cautious and stay updated on local advisories.

Prepare now by bringing plants indoors, providing pets with adequate shelter, and ensuring exposed pipes are insulated.
