Blountstown, FL – The National Weather Service (NWS) in Tallahassee has extended a Flood Warning for the Apalachicola River near Blountstown. Minor flooding is forecast as the river rises to a crest of 17 feet this evening.
According to NWS data, the river’s stage was at 16.7 feet early Friday morning, with flood stage officially marked at 17 feet. Impacts include flooding on John Redd Road in Calhoun County, limiting access west of the boat landing. The lower portion of the Blountstown boat ramp is also expected to flood.
Residents are urged to avoid flooded areas. “Turn around, don’t drown,” officials warn, noting most flood-related fatalities occur in vehicles. Caution is advised near riverbanks as water levels remain unstable.
The warning remains in effect until Saturday morning. Updates are available on the NWS website.
As heavy rainfall continues in the region, residents in Liberty, Gulf, Franklin, and Calhoun counties should prepare for potential disruptions and monitor local alerts.
