Marianna, FL – A Jackson County man was arrested in connection with a string of cattle gate thefts reported earlier this month across the county.
According to the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office (JCSO), more than $2,000 worth of cattle gates were reported stolen by multiple victims on March 20, 2025. Investigators launched an immediate probe after receiving multiple calls.
Authorities say William Matthew Cruce was identified after deputies received a tip alleging he was selling the stolen gates on Facebook Marketplace at unusually low prices. He agreed to meet with investigators for an interview, where he reportedly admitted to the thefts and provided locations from which he allegedly stole the gates.
Cruce was arrested and charged with four counts of Petit Theft, one count of Grand Theft, and five counts of Dealing in Stolen Property. As of March 28, 2025, his bond was set at $65,000.
“We will absolutely not tolerate theft from the innocent, hardworking citizens of Jackson County,” Sheriff Donald L. Edenfield said. “I am proud of our investigators and grateful for the community’s tips.”
Residents are encouraged to remain vigilant and report suspicious activity directly to the JCSO.
