Tallahassee, FL – A powerful Arctic cold front is bringing sub-freezing temperatures and dangerous wind chills to Florida’s Big Bend and Panhandle regions Sunday night into Monday. Residents are urged to prepare for temperatures as low as 29°F, with wind chill values expected to plummet to 16°F in some areas.
According to the National Weather Service, a Hard Freeze Warning is in effect from 10 p.m. Sunday through Monday morning. Affected areas include Tallahassee, Quincy, and the surrounding counties along the I-10 corridor. Wind chills may cause hypothermia with prolonged exposure. Residents are advised to wear warm clothing and limit time outdoors.
A Cold Weather Advisory has also been issued for portions of southwest Georgia. The advisory warns of similarly frigid conditions lasting through 1 p.m. Monday. People are urged to protect the “4 Ps” – people, pets, plants, and pipes – as freezing conditions may lead to frost damage.
Looking ahead, the week begins with highs only reaching the low 40s on Monday. Tuesday night could bring a wintry mix of snow, sleet, and freezing rain as temperatures drop near freezing once again. Forecasters predict calmer, sunny weather by Wednesday but with continued chilly lows in the mid-20s.
Motorists should use caution on bridges and overpasses, which may freeze quickly. For the latest road updates, check Florida 511 before traveling. Stay informed by monitoring local alerts and keeping emergency supplies handy.
