New York – A winter storm is expected to blanket the region with up to 8 inches of snow and bring dangerously cold wind chills as low as -10°F by early Tuesday. Hazardous travel conditions are anticipated on major roadways, including I-87 and I-95, with snowfall rates peaking at 1 to 2 inches per hour late Sunday into Monday.

According to the National Weather Service (NWS), Winter Storm Warnings are in effect for the Hudson Valley, northern New Jersey, and interior Connecticut until 4 a.m. Monday. Snow-covered roads and reduced visibility will make travel dangerous, especially during evening and overnight hours.

Temperatures will plummet after the storm, with lows in the single digits Monday night and wind chills dipping to -10°F across much of the region. These conditions pose risks of hypothermia and frostbite for those exposed to the cold without proper clothing.

New York City and Long Island may see lighter snow totals, around 3 to 5 inches, but untreated roads and sidewalks will remain icy through Monday. Meanwhile, areas north and inland, including Poughkeepsie and Middletown, could see totals nearing 8 inches.

The coldest air of the season will persist into midweek, with highs only in the teens to 20s. Residents are advised to winterize homes, check on vulnerable neighbors, and stay informed through NWS updates. Avoid travel if possible and prepare for icy conditions as the snow transitions into arctic temperatures.
