Tampa, FL – Scattered to numerous afternoon and evening showers and thunderstorms will again be possible today across Florida. Highs are expected to reach the lower to mid-90s, with afternoon heat indices climbing to around 105 degrees.

According to the National Weather Service Tampa Bay, the region will experience a significant heat wave. Residents should take precautions to stay cool and hydrated during peak heat hours. The chance of thunderstorms will increase in the late afternoon and evening, with a 60% probability of rain, particularly in areas such as Brooksville, Lakeland, and Tampa.

The tropical wave over the southwest Atlantic is under close observation, with a 60% chance of developing into a tropical storm later this week or over the weekend. This system, currently located near the Lesser Antilles, is expected to move westward toward the Caribbean and the southeastern United States.

Weather officials advise residents to stay updated on the potential development of this tropical wave, which could bring heavy rainfall and strong winds. Emergency preparedness measures should be reviewed, especially in coastal areas prone to flooding.
