Florence County, SC – A suspect is in custody following a shooting reported Wednesday evening in Pamplico, according to the Florence County Sheriff’s Office.
According to investigators, deputies responded around 7:30 p.m. on April 29 to a reported shooting along River Road in Pamplico, a rural area within Florence County. When deputies arrived, they located a victim who had been shot and required immediate medical attention. The victim was transported to a nearby hospital and is believed to have sustained non-life-threatening injuries.
Authorities say a suspect remained at the scene and was detained without further incident. Following the investigation, deputies charged Bobby Darrell McNeil, 61, of Pamplico, with attempted murder and multiple firearm-related offenses.
According to the Florence County Sheriff’s Office, McNeil allegedly shot the victim following a verbal dispute at a residence on River Road. Investigators further allege that McNeil, a convicted felon, was in possession of a firearm and ammunition at the time, which is prohibited under state law. Officials also stated he was allegedly under the influence of alcohol or drugs during the incident.
McNeil faces charges including attempted murder, possession of a weapon during a violent crime, use of a firearm while under the influence, and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon. He was taken into custody on Wednesday and is currently being held at the Florence County Detention Center pending a bond hearing.
Authorities have not released additional details about the victim or the circumstances leading up to the dispute. The investigation remains ongoing.
