Calhoun, KY – Major flooding continues to impact large portions of the lower Ohio Valley, with officials focusing on the Green River in western Kentucky. The river, which flows through the area, is forecasted to crest at approximately 36 feet in the coming days.
According to the National Weather Service Ohio River Forecast Center, the Green River near Calhoun has already surpassed 35 feet and is expected to rise further. The aerial photograph, taken Thursday, shows the river’s current level, with a few inches remaining before it reaches its predicted crest.
The last time the Green River reached such a high level in Calhoun was in 1950, when it crested at 36.30 feet. Residents and officials in the area are continuing to monitor the situation closely as floodwaters threaten to affect homes and infrastructure along the river.
Flood advisories remain in effect, and authorities are urging the public to stay updated on flood warnings and take necessary precautions.
