Phoenix, AZ – A Flood Watch is in effect today across portions of southwest Arizona and southeast California, with the National Weather Service (NWS) warning of possible flash flooding through Saturday afternoon.

According to the NWS Phoenix office, the watch began at 9 a.m. MST (9 a.m. PDT) and covers areas including Yuma, Parker Valley, Quartzsite, Salome, Ehrenberg, Blythe, and parts of Joshua Tree National Park. The advisory is expected to remain active until 6 p.m. MST / 6 p.m. PDT.

Forecasters said a low-pressure system lingering over southeast California will fuel rounds of showers and thunderstorms. Rainfall totals of 1 to 2 inches are possible, especially where multiple storms pass over the same area. Flooding could impact creeks, washes, low-lying roads, and urban neighborhoods with poor drainage.

Communities in La Paz County, Imperial County, and surrounding desert valleys are at greatest risk for sudden water rises. Officials urge residents to avoid driving across flooded roadways and to stay alert for additional weather updates.

The NWS noted that conditions will peak during the afternoon hours, when thunderstorms reach their strongest intensity. More advisories or flash flood warnings may follow if conditions worsen.

Residents are encouraged to monitor forecasts and take precautions if flooding develops.
