Chicago, IL – The National Weather Service has expanded the flood watch to include DuPage County, Illinois, as waves of rain are set to continue across parts of northern Illinois and northwestern Indiana through tomorrow morning. The remnants of Tropical Storm Beryl are driving this severe weather system, bringing a significant threat of areal flooding.
According to the National Weather Service, localized flooding is expected to occur today in a “popcorn” fashion, meaning sporadic and intense rain showers will pop up across the region. Overnight, the flooding threat intensifies, with more widespread areal flooding anticipated along and east of I-55. Areas near Rockford and the Wisconsin state line are expected to see less impact from this storm.
In addition to heavy rain, strong northerly winds may develop tomorrow morning, particularly along and east of I-55. These winds could exacerbate flooding conditions by pushing water into already saturated areas.
What has changed is the extension of the flood watch to DuPage County, starting at 2 PM CDT. The confidence in the axis of heavy rain occurring east of I-55 has increased, making it crucial for residents in these areas to stay vigilant and prepared.
