Flood Warnings Issued for White and East Fork White Rivers in Indiana

Indianapolis, IN – Several areas along the White River and East Fork White River in southern Indiana remain under flood warnings due to recent rainfall and snowmelt, according to the National Weather Service (NWS) in Indianapolis. Minor flooding is expected to persist through early next week, primarily affecting low-lying areas and roads.

According to the NWS, the flood warning remains in effect for the White River at Hazleton and Petersburg, as well as the East Fork White River at Williams, near Bedford, and near Rivervale. The river is expected to crest at various points between Saturday and Sunday before receding below flood stage early next week.

At Hazleton, the White River is forecast to reach 16.3 feet by Sunday evening, slightly above the flood stage of 16.0 feet. In Petersburg, the river will crest at 17.0 feet on Saturday evening before dropping below flood levels by Tuesday morning.

In Bedford, the East Fork White River is projected to fall below flood stage by Saturday morning. Near Rivervale, minor flooding is occurring, with local roads affected. At Williams, floodwaters have reached State Road 450 at the public access site.

Residents are urged to avoid flooded areas, especially at night, and not to drive through high water. The next update is expected around 11:30 p.m. Friday.
