Flood Warnings Continue for Kentucky River in Frankfort and Lockport

Frankfort, KY – Flood warnings remain in effect for parts of central Kentucky as water levels on the Kentucky River continue to recede but remain above flood stage in some areas.

According to the National Weather Service in Louisville, the Kentucky River at Frankfort Lock is currently experiencing minor flooding. As of 8:30 a.m. Friday, the river stood at 33.4 feet, surpassing the flood stage of 31 feet. Water levels are expected to fall below flood stage by late Friday afternoon. Flooding has impacted roads, including North Stoney Creek Road, Lewis Ferry Road, and Benson Valley Road.

Meanwhile, the Kentucky River at Lockport Lock is also experiencing minor flooding. The river was measured at 42.5 feet Friday morning, with a flood stage of 33 feet. Water is expected to drop below flood stage by late Saturday morning. Areas affected include KY 355, parts of Monterey, and homes along High Street.

Officials urge residents to avoid flooded roads and follow safety precautions. The next update from the National Weather Service is expected by 9:15 p.m. Friday.
