Lufkin, TX – Flood warnings remain in effect for portions of East Texas as river levels continue to rise, leading to minor flooding along the Angelina and Neches Rivers.
According to the National Weather Service in Shreveport, the Angelina River near Lufkin is experiencing minor flooding, with water levels at 162.1 feet as of Thursday morning. The river is expected to crest at the same level before gradually receding. Flood stage is 161.0 feet. Low-lying areas along the river may see minor impacts as waters remain elevated.
Meanwhile, the Neches River near Neches is also under a flood warning, with water levels at 13.4 feet. The river is forecasted to crest at this level before stabilizing. Flood stage for the Neches River is 12.0 feet, and minor lowland flooding is expected. Residents in the area are advised to move livestock and equipment to higher ground.
Authorities urge residents to avoid driving through flooded roadways and to heed all safety warnings. The next update is expected Friday at 11 a.m.
