Evansville, IN – The National Weather Service in Paducah, Kentucky, has issued a flood warning for the Ohio River at Newburgh Dam, impacting Vanderburgh, Warrick, Daviess, Spencer, and Henderson counties. Rising water levels due to recent heavy rainfall upstream are expected to cause minor flooding beginning Sunday morning.
According to the National Weather Service, the river is projected to exceed the 38-foot flood stage late Sunday morning and crest at approximately 41.6 feet by Tuesday evening. Water levels are expected to recede below flood stage by Friday, February 14.
Residents in low-lying areas should take necessary precautions, and motorists are urged to avoid flooded roads. The National Weather Service advises, “Turn around, don’t drown,” emphasizing that most flood-related fatalities occur in vehicles.
