Albuquerque, NM – A flood warning is in effect for central Chaves County, New Mexico, until noon Sunday, as excessive rainfall has led to significant flooding throughout the region. The National Weather Service (NWS) reported that between 4 to 9 inches of rain have fallen in some areas, with flooding impacting Roswell, Dexter, and nearby communities.
According to emergency management officials, numerous roads are closed, and low-water crossings are submerged. Water rescues have been conducted as residents face dangerous conditions, particularly in areas with standing water and impassable roads. Areas near Bottomless Lakes State Park, Midway, and Greenfield are also experiencing significant water accumulation.
The NWS advises residents to avoid driving through flooded roads, as most flood-related deaths occur in vehicles. Residents are urged to monitor weather alerts and avoid travel until the waters recede.
