Quad Cities, IA/IL – A special weather statement has been issued for areas of eastern Iowa and western Illinois, warning of very high fire danger today. Southwest winds gusting up to 30 mph, along with dry conditions and low humidity, have raised the risk of rapidly spreading fires in cured croplands across the region.

According to the National Weather Service (NWS), the affected areas include Buchanan, Dubuque, Clinton, and Scott counties in Iowa, as well as Jo Daviess and Rock Island counties in Illinois. Local authorities are urging residents to avoid outdoor burning, as any fires that start could become difficult to control.

Additionally, outdoor equipment and discarded cigarettes could ignite fires under these conditions. Local burn bans may also be in place, so residents are advised to stay updated and exercise caution.

For more information, visit the NWS website or contact local emergency services.
