Charleston, WV – A flood warning remains in effect for several counties in southeast Ohio due to ongoing rainfall, affecting areas like Gallia, Jackson, Lawrence, Athens, and Meigs. The warning, which was extended until noon EDT today, warns of continued flooding along creeks and rivers as runoff from smaller streams makes its way into larger waterways.

According to the National Weather Service, numerous roads are still closed due to flooding, including low-water crossings that remain inundated. Areas like Ashland, Ironton, Coal Grove, and Oak Hill are expected to see ongoing issues with water levels.

The Department of Highways continues to report several flooded roads, with the most severe impacts seen along larger creeks and rivers. Locations like Rio Grande, Racine, and Middleport are also experiencing significant flooding. Residents are advised to avoid travel in these regions, as floodwaters may make roads impassable.

Flooded roads remain a major hazard, and authorities are urging caution, especially after dark when it’s harder to spot dangers. Residents are reminded to “turn around, don’t drown” when encountering flooded streets and report any flooding to the National Weather Service when it’s safe to do so.
