Duluth, MN – Flood warnings are in effect across northern Minnesota this morning, affecting multiple counties and rivers. Thunderstorms late Monday night caused flash flooding in parts of northwest Wisconsin, including northern Sawyer, southern Bayfield, and Ashland counties, which received 2 to 4 inches of rain. Areal flood warnings are in place along the Cloquet and St. Louis Rivers, impacting areas such as Island, Brimson, and Alden Lakes.
According to the National Weather Service, numerous river locations, including the South Kawishiwi River, Vermillion River near Crane Lake, St. Louis River at Scanlon, and Prairie River near Taconite, are under flood warnings. Despite these challenges, the weather is expected to clear up with mostly sunny skies today, with temperatures ranging from the 70s to mid-80s. However, there is a chance of showers and thunderstorms tonight, extending into Wednesday morning.
By Wednesday, temperatures will cool into the mid-60s to mid-70s, with a 20-30% chance of morning showers and thunderstorms. The weather will improve by Wednesday night, but more showers and storms are expected to develop Thursday night into Friday, with temperatures ranging from the mid-60s to mid-70s.
Residents are advised to stay informed and take necessary precautions as river levels remain high. For more information on river flood warnings, visit the National Weather Service website.
