Denver, Colorado – Heavy rain and dangerous thunderstorms are expected across Colorado this afternoon, with flash flooding possible through 9 p.m. Tuesday in Elbert and Lincoln counties.

According to the National Weather Service in Boulder, storms will form over the mountains early this afternoon before pushing east across the plains. A Flood Watch is in effect for much of eastern Colorado, with the strongest storms likely to impact the I-25 corridor and areas eastward. Large hail and damaging winds are the primary threats, alongside localized flooding.

Areas including Castle Rock, Limon, and Colorado Springs could see storm activity ramp up quickly, especially during the late afternoon commute. Flash flooding is a particular concern for low-lying roads and dry washes, especially in Elbert and Lincoln counties where rainfall rates could exceed an inch per hour.

Drivers are urged to avoid flooded roadways, monitor weather alerts, and postpone non-essential travel through the evening. Power outages may also be possible with stronger storms.

Flood Watch alerts remain in effect until 9 p.m., with more updates expected later this evening as storms continue to develop across the region.
