Tallahassee, Fla. – Heavy afternoon rain is triggering flash flooding concerns across North Florida as slow-moving thunderstorms continue to drench the region.

According to the National Weather Service in Tallahassee, storm cells producing rainfall rates of 2 to 3 inches per hour are impacting areas from Panama City to Tallahassee. Urban flash flooding is possible through Sunday evening, particularly in low-lying neighborhoods and areas with poor drainage. Some locations could see localized totals of 3 to 5 inches if storms merge or stall.

Flood-prone cities including Marianna, Apalachicola, and Crawfordville are under increased risk, especially near major intersections and creeks. Radar shows pockets of intense rainfall aligned with an inverted trough and sea breeze convergence, enhancing storm activity across the Panhandle.

Residents are urged to avoid water-covered roads, monitor local alerts, and secure outdoor belongings. “Turn around, don’t drown” applies even for brief downpours in flood-prone zones.

No severe weather is expected, but the potential for quick flooding remains high into tonight. More advisories may be issued if storm intensity increases.
