Houston, TX – A widespread weather alert remains in effect across southeast Texas, with Houston under a Flash Flood Watch through 7 p.m. Thursday as storms deliver repeated rounds of heavy rainfall across the region.
According to the National Weather Service in Houston/Galveston, up to 3 to 4 inches of rain have already fallen in some areas, with localized totals potentially reaching 6 inches. Thunderstorms are expected to continue throughout the day and into tonight, bringing a 90% chance of precipitation. High temperatures are forecast near 83°F, with south winds up to 10 mph, gusting as high as 20 mph.
The Weather Prediction Center has issued a Moderate Risk (Level 3 of 4) outlook for excessive rainfall over much of southeast Texas, including Houston, Galveston, Freeport, and surrounding communities. The excessive rain could lead to street flooding, especially in urban areas and low-lying locations with poor drainage.
Multiple alerts have been issued, including a Flood Advisory, Flash Flood Warning, and a Special Weather Statement cautioning drivers to avoid flooded roadways. Emergency services stress the importance of not driving through water-covered streets.
Tonight’s forecast includes a 30% chance of lingering storms, with lows around 76°F. Rainfall chances diminish slightly into Friday, but showers and storms remain possible heading into the weekend, particularly in the afternoons.
Residents are urged to stay informed through local updates and the National Weather Service, as conditions may evolve quickly.
