Flagstaff, AZ – A powerful winter storm is set to impact northern Arizona, bringing heavy snowfall and strong winds to multiple regions through Friday evening.

According to the National Weather Service in Flagstaff, a Winter Storm Warning is in effect from 11 p.m. Thursday to 5 p.m. Friday for areas above 5,000 feet, including the Western Mogollon Rim. Snowfall totals are expected to range from 2 to 10 inches, with Flagstaff and Williams forecasted to receive up to 8 inches. Wind gusts could reach 50 mph, potentially leading to downed tree branches and low visibility.

Additionally, a Winter Weather Advisory is in effect for the Chuska Mountains, Defiance Plateau, and Black Mesa areas from 5 a.m. to 11 p.m. Friday. Window Rock may see 2 to 4 inches of snow, while Ganado could receive between 4 to 6 inches. Roads are expected to become slick and hazardous, particularly bridges and overpasses.

The Kaibab Plateau remains under a Winter Weather Advisory until 11 p.m. Thursday, with up to 14 inches of snow possible above 6,500 feet, particularly near Jacob Lake.

Travelers are urged to exercise caution, as road conditions may deteriorate rapidly. The Arizona Department of Transportation advises checking az511.gov or calling 511 for the latest road closures and conditions.
