Arizona – Frost crunches underfoot in Flagstaff this morning as clear skies give way to incoming clouds. Light snow showers are poised to return, raising travel concerns just as New Year’s plans unfold.

According to the National Weather Service, temperatures start near 21 degrees with calm winds. Snow showers develop later today, especially after midafternoon. Accumulations remain light, but cold pavement could turn slick quickly on I-40 and along U.S. 180.

Snow chances increase tonight as temperatures dip into the mid-30s. Visibility may drop at times, and untreated roads could become icy. Drivers should plan extra time and reduce speeds, especially near higher elevations and shaded stretches.

New Year’s Day brings the most active period. Snow showers remain likely through much of the day, with highs near the upper 40s. Gusty southwest winds may briefly reduce visibility, producing slushy conditions by afternoon. While totals stay modest, repeated bursts of snow could complicate holiday travel.

Showers continue into Thursday night, with a rain-and-snow mix possible at times. Lows fall into the mid-30s, allowing refreezing after sunset. Black ice may develop where daytime melting occurs.

Friday marks a gradual improvement. Snow chances taper before midday, skies brighten, and highs reach the low 50s. Winds ease by evening, allowing roads to dry. The first weekend of 2026 looks calmer but still wintry. Saturday stays partly sunny with highs near 51, while nighttime temperatures drop back into the 20s.

Sunday introduces another weak system. A slight chance of rain and snow returns late morning, though impacts appear limited for now.

Winter remains firmly in control across northern Arizona. Are roads slick where you’re traveling this morning?
