Fitchburg, WI: Two Wrong-Way Drivers Arrested for OWI on Highway 14

Fitchburg, WI – Two wrong-way drivers were arrested early Monday morning for operating while intoxicated (OWI) on US Highway 14. Police say both drivers traveled westbound in eastbound lanes near the Beltline, creating a dangerous situation.

According to a press release from the Fitchburg Police Department, an officer observed the vehicles around 1:45 a.m. and quickly responded. With help from the Dane County Sheriff’s Office, police stopped the drivers near Fish Hatchery Road.

Officers conducted preliminary breath tests on both individuals, which indicated blood alcohol levels of approximately .16. This result is twice the legal limit in Wisconsin, set at .08. Authorities confirmed no injuries or crashes occurred due to their swift intervention.

The incident highlights the ongoing dangers of drunk driving, one of the leading causes of traffic fatalities nationwide. Fitchburg police emphasized the importance of responsible choices, urging drivers to find safe alternatives if impaired.

Drivers are encouraged to use ride-sharing services or designated drivers to avoid similar incidents.
