Wichita, KS — The first accumulating snowfall of the season is expected across parts of Kansas on Monday, bringing the potential for hazardous travel, particularly during the morning commute, according to the National Weather Service in Wichita.

Snow probabilities show the greatest chances for 1 inch or more across central and northeast portions of the region, including:

  • Topeka: 78%
  • Salina: 64%
  • Emporia: 60%
  • Russell: 52%
  • Wichita: 29%

Farther south, chances drop significantly, with some locations seeing only a slight risk of measurable accumulation.

Forecasters warn that even light snowfall may create slick roadways, especially early in the day Monday.

Cold Weather Sticks Around

Temperatures will remain well below normal through Friday. Highs are expected to stay in the upper 30s to mid-40s through midweek before dipping into the upper 20s to lower 30s on Thursday. Lows will fall into the teens and 20s most nights.

Another chance for light snow returns Thursday night, though amounts are expected to remain minor at this time.

Residents are urged to check road conditions before traveling and stay updated as the forecast evolves.
