Orland Park, IL – A fire that broke out Tuesday afternoon behind a Marshalls store in Orland Park was swiftly extinguished by fire crews before it could spread inside the retail space.
According to the Orland Fire Protection District, the fire was reported around noon Tuesday at the loading dock of the Marshalls located at 101 Orland Park Place, near 153rd Street and LaGrange Road. Upon arrival, firefighters discovered flames and heavy smoke confined to the dock area behind the store.
Officials said the fire was contained to the exterior of the building and did not reach the store’s interior. Firefighters evacuated the store as a precaution and quickly suppressed the blaze.
Interim Fire Chief John Purtill said the Orland Fire District received support from crews from Palos Fire Protection District and Tinley Park Fire Department. “We are very proud of the fast emergency response of our firefighters which prevented this fire from growing and causing more damage and threatening customers,” Purtill stated.
The fire was first spotted by Orland crews en route to another call, who noticed the smoke and diverted to the scene, arriving just as 911 calls were being received, according to the department.
No injuries were reported. Marshalls remains open to the public as fire damage was limited to the loading dock area.
An investigation into the cause of the fire is ongoing.
