Washington, DC – A nationwide food recall is underway after Navitas Organics announced a voluntary recall of select lots of its 8-ounce Organic Chia Seeds due to a potential risk of Salmonella contamination.
According to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA), the recall was announced and published Friday, January 23, 2026, as a precautionary measure following a recall initiated by the company’s chia seed supplier. The affected product was distributed nationally through major retailers, including Whole Foods Market and online sellers such as Amazon.
The recalled product is Navitas Organics Organic Chia Seeds, 8 oz, sold in sealed stand-up pouches with UPC 858847000284. Only specific lot codes are affected. Consumers should check the back of the package above the nutrition label for nine-digit lot codes beginning with the letter “W.”

Navitas Organics stated there have been no reported illnesses linked to the product at this time. No other Navitas products are included in the recall.
Salmonella can cause serious infections, particularly in young children, older adults, and people with weakened immune systems. Symptoms may include fever, diarrhea, nausea, vomiting, and abdominal pain.
