Piscataquis County, ME — A New Jersey man was killed when his motorcycle collided with a moose on September 30. The crash occurred around 7 p.m. at mile marker 240 on Route 240 southbound in T2 R9, according to Maine State Police.
Troopers say the victim, 50-year-old Anand Sreedharan of Princeton, NJ, was traveling southbound when a moose unexpectedly crossed into his lane. Sreedharan struck the animal, was ejected from his motorcycle, and sustained fatal injuries. The moose also died in the crash.
First responders arrived shortly after the collision, but Sreedharan was pronounced dead at the scene. The Maine State Police received assistance from multiple agencies, working to clear the scene and investigate the crash.
Wildlife crashes, particularly involving moose, pose serious risks in rural Maine. According to police, such accidents tend to increase in the fall due to animal movement patterns.
Authorities are continuing to investigate the circumstances leading up to the crash. They advise motorists to remain vigilant, especially in heavily wooded areas where wildlife is common.
